There are many issues that could be caused from including technology in your classroom. One of the biggest problems that occur with technology in classrooms is students being involved in academic dishonestly. This includes but is not limited to unethical use of AI, copy and pasting direct info without correct citation, and searching up answers to online tests. My solution to this issue in my classroom would be to make my assignments due on paper and not typed. In addition to this being better for learning and memorization of the content, it will also make sure that the work is their own. I also could make sure that any of the online assignments that I assign have AI checkers and limited servers in order to track all use of the computer and online resources.
The topic of copyright and fair use is something I have not explored in school before. While we did cover proper credit and citation in many of my english and writing courses, pictures and other content we used were never restricted due to copyright. In this class I have learned a lot more about this topic and will further use this information to support me in my classroom. In my classroom I will make sure that all of the material I use is properly credited and I use many pictures from the public domain as opposed to those that are copyrighted. Due to the young age of my students I will prioritize hand on and in person activities where I can closely monitor all use of technology making sure that their work is their own and is within fair use guidelines.
I learned many new skills from creating my newsletter this week. I was previously not very knowledgable on how to use Word or what tools it had to offer. Now however I can confidently add graphics, include page breaks, and format material into columns. This will help me in my classroom to be able to create my own newsletters for parents that are visually appealing and accessible to all members of my classroom community. I could further improve my newsletter by including more engaging fonts and colors and adding more graphics in order to increase design quality.
